Creating Safe Space in a World that Burns Witches

Many of us spiritually sensitive people still carry an ancient fear in our nervous system—the fear of being seen.

For centuries, those who worked with herbs, intuition, dreams, healing, magic, tarot cards, or unusual spiritual gifts were often ridiculed, cast out, or even burned as witches. Even though the world has changed in many ways, echoes of that old danger still remain.

You can feel it when you lower your voice and glance around the room before talking about manifestation, energy healing, faeries, divination, or mystical experiences.

Or when you hide meaningful parts of yourself to avoid being judged.

It’s called the witch wound and it is rarely just about history.
It still shows up in our lives as hesitation, self-censorship, fear of visibility, fear of success, fear of speaking too openly about what we know deep inside.

Healing the witch wound

Whether from past lives, present life memories, or patterns carried in our DNA from persecuted ancestors, these patterns run deep in our subconscious.

Healing the Witch Wound

The only way to heal these wounds is to bring them gently into the light—in an environment safe enough that the nervous system can finally relax.

Our magical tools—journey work, ritual, faery communion—can reach places that talk therapy never touches, but they require one thing first: genuine safety. Without it, the armor stays on.

The witch wound runs directly through the body, not around it. Our magical tools can be profound allies in that healing. But safety isn’t just a prerequisite we check off our to-do list. It’s part of the healing itself, already begun.

That is why safe spaces like our Substack Faery Portal membership really matter.

A private supportive circle allows the nervous system to relax. The heart opens. Creativity returns. Intuition becomes clearer.

In many ways, magic itself requires a unique kind of safety. That’s why traditional magicians cast a circle before working with spells or Otherworld contacts.

You know how seeds only grow in the right conditions? Forest creatures emerge when danger passes?

Same with ancient Celtic wisdom that was shared in secret mystery schools rather than shouted into hostile crowds.

Safe space does not mean keeping secrets or building walls against the world. It means creating a protective bubble where people can reconnect with their deeper selves without fear of mockery or attack. Where self-expression is welcomed by people who are on the same wavelength.

That is part of what we are building within our new Faery Portal. A safe space separate from the noise and harshness of the muggle world. A place for thoughtful souls who long for beauty, wonder, healing, and meaningful spiritual companionship.

Your First Step: A Simple Practice…

In a world where some people still want to burn witches metaphorically—through ridicule, cynicism, and constant pressure to conform to their views—safe sanctuaries become sacred medicine.

Looking for magic in the trees

Here at Faehallows School of Magic is where you can let your weirdness out for some fresh air and expect to be celebrated rather than misunderstood.

Start the Healing Right Now

Take a quiet moment and ask yourself: What is one true thing about my inner world that I usually keep hidden?

It might be your sensitivity to energy, your intuition, your love of faery magic—something you instinctively guard.

Now find a way to express it in the lowest-risk way possible.

  • Write it in a journal without editing.
  • Whisper it aloud to yourself.
  • Share it with one person who feels genuinely safe.
  • Or post it in the Substack chat if your nervous system is ready.

The key isn’t intensity. It’s safety.

You’re teaching your nervous system that expression doesn’t lead to danger. That one small act—repeated gently over time—begins to unwind what has been carried for generations.

Nature is the witche's temple

Faehallows School of Magic is one of those safe places. You’re already here. That’s a start!

I’m hoping our circle of safety will expand within our Substack Faery Portal. A safe space within the noise and harshness of the muggle world. Where thoughtful souls who long for beauty, wonder, healing, and magic can find meaningful spiritual companionship.

So let your weirdness out for some fresh air and expect to be celebrated rather than misunderstood.
